Material Flow Project – Polyols Program Print E-mail
Latest
Do you use polyols in your products?  Were you aware that there are multiple options of soy-based polyols currently available?  As part of a collaborative research effort,  OBIC and PolymerOhiohave compiled technical data for 27 different soy-based polyols.
This list of materials is part of a Material Flow study for soy-based polyols that was kicked off in March.  The current study is targeting users of polyols in the urethane manufacturing market with an objective to provide the basis for developing a quantifiable market estimate of soy-based polyol product substitution potential within Ohio over the next 1-2 and 3-5 years that also supports the synergistic Soy Technology program ("Cell-to-Sell" Soy Technology Program).

This project is being funded by the Ohio Department of Development with the purpose of getting a clear picture of the potential biobased markets within the state.  From the data collected through the survey, Ohio’s leaders would be made aware of the opportunities available to the state’s chemical and polymer industries.  As a result, it would help design programs and resources to position Ohio to be a leader in the growing biobased market and to create new wealth and jobs within the state.  The final report on polyols is expected to be complete in the Fall of 2009.

The soy polyols program is just the first step in this research effort.  OBIC has since kicked off a Material Flow program targeting Thermoset Resins usage in Ohio, and conversations are in progress on the possibility of a Material Flow program targeting the Plasticizers market.  The Material Flow project can identify future opportunities for both the agricultural and polymer industries in Ohio and allow for the state to become a leader in this growing biobased economy.
